Apprenticeship Standards

What apprenticeships do we offer?

We offer 4 apprenticeship standards from yellow belt to black belt leader equivalent.  These range in difficulty, from roughly A-Level to Masters.  Open to all staff based in England with the relevant threshold education achievements.

Improvement Technician

Coach Lean Six Sigma improvement activities, collaborate within operational teams to identify root causes, engage team members, and support overall performance improvement processes

Improvement Practitioner​

Lead change using Lean Six Sigma, project management, change principles, addressing issues with swift problem-solving, conducting in-depth analysis and intervention

Improvement Specialist​

Lead improvement strategy deployment, train others, and offer technical expertise in Lean Six Sigma and Change Management. Experts in identifying/delivering improvement opportunities, reporting to Improvement Leaders

Improvement Leader​

Develop improvement strategy, provide leadership, coach Improvement Specialists in advanced analysis, typically reporting to Board members or Heads of Department, managing a team of Improvement Specialists

What should a CI team look like?​​

A proficient CI Team comprises of:
- 1/3rd trained in "Yellow belt/Technician" or "Lean Manufacturing Operative"
- 1 Green belt for every £150,000 of opportunity
- Each Black belt oversees up to six Green belts, managing a £1 million of opportunity, with a Master Black belt supervising ten Black Belts, ensuring a structured and efficient CI hierarchy.

During the apprenticeship, comprehensive support is offered to apprentices. This includes mentorship from Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt specialists, on/off-the-job training, and 2 separate ‘Analysis’ and ‘Impact’ workshops during the practical period of the apprenticeship. Regular development coach calls ensure progress tracking and address any challenges. Additionally, apprentices receive assistance with problem-solving and guidance in navigating real-world scenarios, fostering their development and success in the workplace.

Factory managers overseeing the apprenticeship receive robust support mechanisms. This encompasses dedicated mentorship to guide apprentices’ integration into the workforce seamlessly.
